Private Beds
St. Jude’s has two beds available for private pay clients. These single rooms are for older people requiring complex care. Private Pay residents pay a monthly fee for their care and are not subsidized by the government.

Some reasons someone might consider opting for Private Pay accommodation at St. Jude’s:
What are the rooms like?
The private pay room are single occupancy, bright, character rooms. They can accommodate clients needing either general or special care. Each has an electric bed and selection of tasteful furnishings. Each room has a private toilet and sink.
What services are offered?
Private pay residents receive all the services listed on the Care and Services page.

How can someone register on the waiting list?

Who is accepted as a “private pay” resident?
Applicants sixty-five years and older who require ongoing nursing care. Pre-admission includes an assessment and interview by our Director of Care.
Admission is considered chronologically, based on the waitlist registration date. Special consideration is given to assist couples to live together when possible.
Can a resident who is a private pay stay at St. Jude’s when they qualify to receive government funding?
Yes. Private pay residents who qualify for long term care can request that their name be put on the “transfer list” for one of our government-funded beds. When a funded bed becomes available at St. Jude’s, the resident can stay here and would be admitted as a client of Vancouver Coastal Health.
People planning to transfer from a private pay to publicly funded bed at St. Jude’s should budget for 2 years of paying privately.
